Rob - before the annual "Internationales Panorama--Bergrennen " race from Grindelwald at the base of the valley up to the summit of Mannlichen.  The Berglauf (runners) elevation chart shows the course elevation - starting at 951 m elevation and ending at 2216 m - a 3800 foot vertical climb.  There were actually three races on the same course - first were mountain bikes, second were roller-skis and third were the runners.  Course distance was 12km.  Carolyn and I watched the start and then got on the gondola and were able to see the racers zig-zag their way up the mountain along the paved path below us.  Rob won his age group.
